I recalled my old grouse after comments on one of my previous posts---
This image is a reproduction of what is given in the 9th class physical science textbook to explain what a polarised atom is. When the two dots are together, the atom is polarised, and when the two dots are on opposite sides, the atom is not polarised.
I really cannot think how I would explain the concept of polarisation to 9th class children. (No QM) Any ideas are welcome.

Sorry for the weird image. I am not too tech savvy.
Imagine you have a thorough mixture of sand and iron dust which you slowly expose to a small magnet. You will see that the iron dusts are getting attracted towards the magnet by leaving their earlier positions in relation to the sand particles. This is polarization. A distinct separation due to an external force.
You can give examples of political polarization. Bring ram mandir issue there is a religious polarization, bring reservation issue there is a caste polarization, bring rajnikanth there is a north-south polarization.
Now coming to that picture, it tries to drive the point that when you have an external field, the electronic distribution is shifted with respect to the positive nucleus thus causing a polarization. All electrons are now one side and the nucleus on the other side.
The iron filings/sand is a good idea. I don't agree about the picture.
