I hear from people in the US that there are no jobs and many people with PhD are looking unsuccessfully for academic jobs. There are a lot of reports that the IITs are facing a huge crunch in terms of faculty in recent years.
Why is there no match? Surely many of the jobless PhDs are Indians? Are they unwilling to join IITs? or are there no Indians in the list of jobless PhDs?

I know at least couple of extremely talented biotech people with PhD from Germany and post-doc experience from US, and who have been extremely productive in their field can not find faculty job in India since they don't have network in India. so things really don't match sometime.
the "no match" and a few other problems have been discussed in this article in Current Science from the point of view of a prospective returnee.
After all, we have our own candidates!
If we do not look after our own candidates, who will?
There may be some pecuniary considerations but that is beside the point.
